Shared Highlighting

Teachers can highlight words, phrases or passages of text that pupils will then see when reading.

Teachers might choose to highlight:

  • text that is particularly effective,

  • specialist vocabulary,

  • text features, or,

  • text with a particular feature, for example, rhyme or phoneme.

When adding notes, teachers might choose to:

  • add explanations to text that might be challenging,

  • add prompts for reflection or discussion, or,

  • add details on follow-up tasks for pupils.
