Task Description

Pairs is a matching task in which pupils discuss and decide if a word matches with another, or not.

This activity supports:

  • decision making and justifying

  • vocabulary development and learning words that belong together in word ‘clouds’ or as synonyms and antonyms

  • knowledge of words that might appear to be similar but have subtle differences, for example, stomp and march

  • word recognition, if used with key words and younger pupils

This activity can be done by:

  • groups

  • pairs

Resources:

  • banks of blank or pre-prepared cards with words already written on them – two colours is preferable

  • a timer (optional)
